Champions league quarter finals 2016/17

Giants went head to head and some emerged victorious while some were slain. Here’s a round up of all the matches and scores of the first round of Champions League Quarter finals held on 11/12th April 2017.

Juventus 3-0 Barcelona : It remains to be seen if Barcelona can repeat their performance from the previous round again as they try to overcome a massive 3 goal deficit in the second leg against Juventus. Two first half goals from Dybala and a rare european goal from Chiellini sealed the deal as Barcelona looked lost on the pitch and never really got going.

Dortmund 2-3 Monaco : Dortmund fought back well with an assist and a great goal from Shinji Kagawa to end 2-3 on the night. While the tie is far from over, they will surely regret conceding 3 away goals on the night including and own goal from Bender. The second leg is still anyone’s game in this fixture.

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Leicester city : Home fans will feel disappointed surely after scoring only 1 against a Leicester side that always looked uncomfortable. Leicester defended deep and would be happy with the result as they play the second leg home at the King Power stadium. While there were no indications that they posed any kind of a threat to Atletico, it would be unwise to write them off just yet.

Bayern Munich 1-2 Real Madrid : Real absorbed wave after wave of attack and were behind in the first half after a thumping header from Vidal from a corner. But the goal scoring hero had his fortunes reversed after he blasted a penalty over the crossbar. Real however were quick to equalise through Ronaldo after the start of the second half. Javi Martinez was booked twice in a span of 3 minutes and was given his marching orders. It was all Real after that and Bayern switched to damage control. Ronaldo scored again after a brilliant cross from the left and stamping the ball through Neuer’s legs. However, it is still not quite over yet.

Interesting results and some great ties lined up for next week’s round when we find out which among these will make it to the semi-finals of this year’s champion’s league. Stay tuned.
